Job Opening: Shipping & Receiving Associate

ACCSES NJ Member Employment Horizons is looking to add a Shipping/Receiving Associate to their staff.

Shipping & Receiving Associate

(FULL TIME)

 

Employment Horizons is a not for profit organization seeking to hire a Shipping & Receiving Associate to work in our warehouse located in Cedar Knolls, NJ.  The primary role of this position is to plan, organize, and monitor the receiving, storage, and distribution of all items received and/or shipped from the warehouse.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Previous forklift and pallet jack experience required
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • Previous experience in a warehouse setting preferred
  • Basic reading and math skills
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications and internet
  • Comfort using heavy work-machinery, office machinery
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of shipping regulations
  • Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • First aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • Must be able to lift, lower, push, and pull items up on a regular basis

#OurPurpose Success Story: Terrance

Terrance came to the Easterseals NJ Raritan Valley Work Center in 2004 as a high school graduate whose only work experience was a seasonal job at a department store. Terrance said his main objective at the Center was to “make more money.” In order to reach his goal, Terrance took on the challenge of learning different tasks – some came easily, and others that did not.

While earning his paycheck, Terrance learned many new skills such as material handling, assembling, categorizing, and labeling. In addition to learning these tasks, he worked on his social skills, and basic job seeking skills. He learned things like how to correctly fill out a job application and ways to respond effectively to questions asked during a job interview.

Ultimately, this led to a job opportunity as a material handler loading and unloading trucks at a warehouse. Terrance thrived in this environment, using his new found skills to ease him into the competitive job market. With continued support from the work center, Terrance worked to further develop the traits and characteristics of a valued employee.

As Terrance now seeks new opportunities in the workplace, staff at Easterseals are helping Terrance perfect his resume by helping him identify work areas in which he is qualified. This will serve him well as he pursues other opportunities and help him explore the ways in which he can become more versatile. ACCSES NJ is confident that Terrance will continue to succeed wherever he goes!

#OurPurpose Success Story: Helene

Helene works for the Occupational Training Center of Burlington County. She can often be found in the back of the workshop, rolling cloth and listening to music. She always has her CD player with her and finds that it makes work more fun.

Despite the fact she has a quiet demeanor. She is willing to stop what she’s doing to help her coworkers. Helene also spends time with the new clients at lunch to help them become acclimated to OTC. As a result, she has become an example to others on how to act and conduct themselves in the workshop area.

In her spare time, Helene likes to go to the mall and shop for CDs. Her favorite store to visit is FYE and likes buying soft rock albums.

Helene enjoys her work rolling cloth and sealing them inside of bags. She’s become very proficient and packs it neatly every time. It’s her favorite job to do at OTC. We at ACCSES NJ are very proud of what Helene has accomplished and look forward to hearing about all the amazing work she will continue to do as a role model for other workers.

#OurPurpose Success Story: James

James originally came to Occupational Training Center of Burlington County in July of 2016 through the Trail Work Program. Unfortunately, he was not able to finish. James decided to try again one year later and succeeded in completing the program in August of 2017. He soon moved into Extended Employment at OTC.

James started out counting and bagging envelopes. He then learned to seal them, a task he mastered quickly. As of late, he has taken on the role of a quiet leader. He ensures that the bundled envelope counts are accurate and makes sure the items are ready for shipment to the vendor. He currently does this five days a week for OTC.

James enjoys coming to work every day. He stated, “I like being around people, I like to feel like I’m contributing something.” His favorite job to do is packaging. He enjoys stacking boxes on the pallet. “I kind of like moving a bit more,” he explained.

Last fall, James participated in a special work internship with a local nursery. He was offered employment with them and will start this month! We at ACCSES NJ are very proud of James’s achievements and wish him luck with his new job.

#OurPurpose Success Story: Jamar

Jamar came to the Occupational Training Center of Burlington County in June 2018 through the OTC Trail Work program. He first tried to join the program in 2016, but was unable to complete it due to health issues. Jamar ended up being a model worker and completed the program in half the time! He now participates in the Extended Employment program five days a week.

He started out counting and bagging envelopes, he then progressed to being able to seal those envelopes. Soon after, Jamar progressed to working on tri-folds. He takes flat boxes and folds them into three sections. He also was given work with a Pepsi contract where he breaks down boxes.

Jamar likes working because it helps him gain experience and an enthusiasm for work. He has mentioned that he is interested in working in the community in the future. Being able to work is important to him because it not only allowed him to get back on his feet, but also gives him the opportunity to help others.

In his spare time, Jamar likes to draw. It’s a new hobby for him as it’s something he only started doing a few months ago. He likes to craw superheroes, horror characters, characters from Cinderella and much more!

#OurPurpose Employment Success Story: Mary

Mary first came to ACCSES NJ member Easterseals nine years ago for assistance with obtaining employment. Mary began as a product packer, but quickly demonstrated that she was capable of much more. She then trained for several other positions at Easterseals, including material handling, palletizing, and sealing. Mary used her knowledge of these jobs to teach other participants and set a positive example for her peers. Mary displayed the qualities of leadership and responsibility, and expressed that she was interested in working in the community as well.

Mary’s first employment position was selling items with her aunt at the Vineland Flea Market. That first job not only provided exposure to employment, but also piqued her interest in a career in retail, something she expressed to Easterseals.

The vocational training at Easterseals provided Mary with education about interpersonal skills and professionalism in the workplace. She exhibited creativity with her choice of apparel and created all of her own clothing handbags and jewelry by hand, something she still does now! Given her experience and interests, Mary was a perfect fit for employment in the retail industry. She informed Easterseals staff about her desire for community employment. With their assistance, she created a resume and completed an application.

Mary successfully obtained a position at a local retail store, and has maintained employment there this past year. Mary reports that she loves her job. Her favorite task is completing inventory through the creation of bar-code tags for new clothing items. She is as eager as ever to help others and train new staff and credits Easterseals for helping to keep her motivated about work and be active in her community.
